The Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence, Pietro Parolin, has sent a telegram of condolences in the name of the Holy Father, Pope Francis to His Eminence, Cardinal Rubén Salazar Gómez, Archbishop of Bogotá (Colombia).

Telegram of Condolence

Cardinal Rubén Salazar Gómez
Archbishop of Bogotá

Having received news of the cruel terrorist attack which has caused suffering and death in the city of Bogotá, Pope Francis expresses his most profound sorrow for the victims who have lost their lives as a result of such an inhumane act and he is offering prayers for their eternal repose.  In these moments of commotion and sadness, he wishes also to express his support and closeness to the numerous others who are wounded, to their families and to all the Colombian people.

The Holy Father once more condemns blind violence, which is a grave offence against the Creator, and offers his prayers to the Lord, asking for His help to persevere in the construction of concord and peace in that country and in the entire world.

With these desires, His Holiness invokes his Apostolic benediction upon all the victims, upon their families and upon the beloved people of Colombia.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State of His Holiness
