Pro eligendo

This morning, there was a Mass celebrated for the election of the Roman Pontiff.  Uniting our voices in prayer with all those who cry heavenward in these days for divine guidance for the Cardinals who are meeting today in their final day of deliberations and preparations for the Conclave, we must now watch and wait as He inspires the Cardinals to choose the one who is best suited for the challenge that lies ahead.

May they choose a man with the heart of a shepherd, one who knows only too well his own limitations but who also knows the heart of the Shepherd and one who strives to imitate Him in his love and mercy for the Church: the people of God.

Meanwhile, the presider's chair in the Lateran Basilica awaits the 266th Successor of Peter.

O God,
our eternal shepherd
who guides your people with a father's care
grant to your Church
a Pope acceptable to you
in holiness of life,
one entirely consecrated
to the service of your people.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
