Condolences to Haiti

The Holy Father has sent a telegram of condolence to the President of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti, expressing his concern for the victims of Hurricane Matthew which struck Haiti this week.

Having learned of the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew, which has claimed numerous victims and caused considerable damage, His Holiness, Pope Francis wishes to share with you his sadness and to assure you of his prayers for all those who are now suffering the loss of their loved ones.  He expresses his sincere condolences to them and assures them of his profound sympathy in such painful circumstances.  He confides the dead to the mercy of God, asking that He may welcome them into his light.  His Holiness assures you all of his spiritual closeness and of his affection for those who have been wounded as well as all those who have lost their homes and possessions in this catastrophe.

In gratitude for and encouraging the solidarity that has been enacted by this trial that is being endured by the entire country, the Holy Father confides all Haitians to the maternal protection of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and as a sign of comfort and hope, he willingly imparts to all of them his Apostolic blessing.
