New Auxiliary Bishops for Quebec

This morning, the Holy Father named two new Auxiliary Bishops for the Archdiocese of Québec (Canada): Reverend Louis Corriveau, who is a priest of the Archdiocese of Québec, currently serving as Pastor of Saint Bernardine of Sienna parish, assigning him the titular See of Arena; and Reverend Marc Pelchat, also a priest of the Archdiocese of Québec, currently serving as the Vicar General, assigning him the titular See of Lambesi.

Reverend Louis Corriveau was born in Sainte-Marie-de-Bauce, in the Archdiocese of Québec on 23 March 1964.  Following his secondary studies, he entered the Major Seminary in Québec City where he completed formation for priesthood.

He was ordained a deacon on 15 August 1989 and a priest on 16 June 1990.  During his pastoral ministry, he served as parochial vicar (Associate Pastor) of Saint-Georges and Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande (1990-1996).  From 1994-1995, he served as Vocations Animator and from 1996-1997, he was a member of the community of formator priests at the Major Seminary in Québec City.

From 1997-1998, he completed some courses in Spirituality at the Centre Sèvres in Paris and upon his return to Canada, he was asked to serve as part of the formation team and as a spiritual father at the Major Seminary in Québec City, a post he held until 2011.

In 2011, he was named Administrator of the parishes of Saint-Léonard, Sainte-Christine and Saint-Raymond-de-Portneuf.  On 7 September 2011, he was also named Pastor of Saint-Bernardin-de-Sienne at Rivière-à-Pierre.  Since 2009, he has also served as Spiritual Counsellor to the Équipes Notre-Dame in Canada.

Reverend Marc Pelchat was born in Saint-Samuel-du-Lac-Drolet, in the Archdiocese of Quebec on 3 May 1950.  After primary school in his native village, he entered the Immaculate Conception minor seminary in Saint-George de Bauce where he completed his school formation and then continued to the Major Seminary in Québec City for priestly formation.

He was ordained a priest on 19 June 1976.

In that same year, he continued his studies and obtained a Masters degree in Theology from Laval University.  Sent to Rome, to the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1986, he was subsequently granted a Doctorate in Theology with the thesis: Ecclesiology in the work of Henri de Lubac.

From 1976 until 1979, he exercised his ministry as vicar in the parishes of Saint-Edouard and Saint-Louis de Lotbinière.  He was then appointed as regional pastoral animator in Lotbinière and Bois-Francs during the years 1979-1982, Pastor of Sainte-Emmelie-de-Lotbinière from 1980-1982, and regional pastoral animator for Québec-Centre from 1986-1987.

After having been granted his Doctorate, he began to teach in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences at Laval University, and he was later named Dean of that Faculty for three mandates during the period from 1997 to 2012.  Since 2013, he has served as an associate professor in retirement.  He is the author of many publications on the subjects of ecclesiology, the theology of ministries and pastoral theology.

On 1 June 2015, he was appointed Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Archdiocese of Québec.
