This morning in Rome, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has named His Excellency, Frank Kalabat, who is currently serving as the Eparchial Bishop of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit for Chaldean Catholics in the United States of America as Apostolic Administrator sede vacante of the Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto for Chaldeans in Canada.
This means that His Excellency will continue in is post as Bishop of the Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit and will assume responsibility for the pastoral leadership of Chaldean Catholics resident in Canada as well.
His Excellency, Emmanuel Hanna Shaleta (Challita) has served as the pastoral shepherd of Chaldean Catholics in the Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto since 15 January 2015 but was transferred today to the Chaldean Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego (USA).
The Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto is headquartered in Toronto (Ontario). It's Cathedral is located in North York. As of 2013, the Eparchy serves 18,886 Chaldean Catholics. There are seven priests and 40 permanent deacons who preside over eight parishes which are located in various locations throughout the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
