Pope Francis will visit Padre Pio

This morning at the Vatican, the Director of the Holy See Press Centre, Greg Burke announced that on 17 March 2018, the Holy Father, Pope Francis will make a Pastoral Visit to Pietrelcina, in the Diocese of Benevento, to mark 100 years since the apparition of the stigmata in the hands and feet of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (known by many simply as Padre Pio).  The Holy Father will also visit San Giovanni Rotondo, the city where Padre Pio lived as a Franciscan Friar, located in the Diocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the Saint.

Departure of the helicopter from the Vatican

8:00am
Arrival of the helicopter in the parking lot outside the Roman Plains in Pietrelchina
The Holy Father will be welcomed by His Excellency, Felice Accrocca, Archbishop of Benevento and the Honourable Domenico Masone, Mayor of Pietrelcina.

The Pope will pause in prayer in the Chapel of the Stigmata and then he will greet the faithful in the courtyard outside the church.
The Archbishop of Benevento will offer greetings
The Holy Father will greet the members of the Capuchin community and a representative group of the faithful

The Holy Father will be welcomed by His Excellency, Michele Castoro, Archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo and by the Honourable Costanzo Cascavilla, Mayor of San Giovanni Rotondo

Eucharistic celebration in the Square outside the Church of Saint Pio da Pietrelcina
At the conclusion of the Mass, greetings will be offered by His Excellency, Michele Castroro.
The Holy Father will then visit with the Capuchin community and a representative group of the faithful
