In an earlier post, I made reference to the Prayer for Italy which was penned by Blessed John Paul II on March 15, 1994. At the request of one of this blog's readers, here is the English-language translation of the Prayer:
May we see the signs of your presence
and experience the power of your love that never fails.
Lord Jesus, Son of God and Savior of the world,
made man in the womb of the Virgin Mary,
we confess our faith.
Your Gospel is light and vigor
for our personal choices and social issues.
Your law of love leads our civic community
to justice and solidarity, to reconciliation and peace.
Holy Spirit, love of the Father and of the Son
with confidence, we call upon you.
You who are the interior teacher, revealing to us the thoughts and ways of God
help us to look at human affairs with pure and penetrating eyes,
to preserve the heritage of holiness and civilization
proper to our people,
to convert all minds and hearts so that our society may be renewed.
Glory to you, O Father, who achieves all in all.
Glory to you, O Son, who out of love became our servant.
Glory to you, O Holy Spirit, who plants your gifts in our hearts.
Glory to you, O Holy Trinity, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.
Prayer for Italy
composed by His Holiness, John Paul II
March 15, 1994
O God, our Father,
we praise you and thank you.
You who love all men and guide all peoples
guide the steps of our nation,
often difficult but full of hope.
we praise you and thank you.
You who love all men and guide all peoples
guide the steps of our nation,
often difficult but full of hope.
May we see the signs of your presence
and experience the power of your love that never fails.
Lord Jesus, Son of God and Savior of the world,
made man in the womb of the Virgin Mary,
we confess our faith.
