Watch for it

Plans are fast and furiously being put into place for next month's celebration of the XXVIII World Youth Day, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The first details about the Pope's schedule for the visit to Rio was published last month in these pages.

Today, the Vatican Press Office released some of the technical details, mostly meant for the information of accredited journalists who intend to accompany the Papal party which will be present for WYD.  Included in these details was a very short list of the events which will be televised:

• July 22, the welcoming ceremony which will be held at Guanabara;
• July 23, the Opening Mass which will be celebrated at the Copacabana, presided over by the Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro;
• July 24, the Papal visit to the São Francisco Hospital in Rio de Janeiro;
• July 25, the consignment of the keys to the city to Pope Francis, and the blessing of the Olympic flags at the Palazzo della Città in Rio de Janeiro;
• July 25, the youth welcoming festival which will be held at the Copacabana;
• July 26, the recitation of the Angelus in the square outside the Archbishop's residence;
• July 26, the Via Crucis which will take place at the Copacabana;
• July 27, the Mass which will be celebrated by the Holy Father, in company with the bishops present for the WYD celebrations, held in the Cathedral
• July 27, Pope Francis' meeting with the civil leaders of Brazil in the Teatro Municipale;
• July 27, the prayer vigil with the youth at Guaratiba;
• July 28, the Mass concluding the WYD, celebrated at Guaratiba;
• July 28, the Pope's meeting with the Coordinating team of CELAM at Sumaré;
• July 28, the Holy Father`s meeting with WYD volunteers at Riocentro; and
• July 28, the departure ceremony at the International Airport.

Further details about the local stations which will be televising these events will be released when it is made public by the respective stations or by the Vatican's Press Office.
