Last night, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, SJ provided some information to journalists about a Mass that was celebrated by the Holy Father in the Redemptoris Mater chapel in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
At 6:00pm this evening, in the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father, Pope Francis celebrated a Mass to mark the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Aletti Centre and the 20th anniversary of the Aletti Centre's Spiritual Art Workshop. The mosaic decoration within the Redemptoris Mater Chapel was in major part accomplished in 1999, the first great work accomplished by this Spiritual Art Workshop under the direction of Father Marko Rupnik, SJ.
Many priests were present to concelebrate with the Holy Father, including Father Rupnik, the founder and director of the Centre; and Father Milan Zust, SJ, Superior of the Religious Community present at the Centre. About eighty other persons: members of the Aletti Centre community, artists from the Spiritual Art Workshop and members of the Cardinal Špnidlik Theological Workshop, a work of cultural reflection which was also begun by the Centre.
The liturgical texts used were those proposed for the Mass of the day. The Pope commented on the readings in his usual fashion, characteristic of the homilies delivered at the Casa Santa Marta, focusing especially on the joy of the Apostles: who rejoiced to know that they were found worthy of suffering dishonour for the sake of the name of Jesus, and on the paths of service that characterize the followers of Jesus who is the source of peace and happiness. He concluded with a Marian thought which drew him to a contemplation of an icon of Mary which was donated by the Aletti Centre, in which Mary appears in the centre (of the icon) but in fact it is Jesus who is at the centre, ascending toward us from the hands of Mary.
The Prayers of the Faithful were offered in a simple style, characteristic of the Eastern liturgy.
