Telegram of Condolence
for the death of the former Chancellor, Helmut Kohl

With emotion, I have learned the news of the death of the former Federal Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, following a long and serious illness.  I express to his family members as well as to you and to all the German people who now mourn the Chancellor of Unity, my most sincere condolences.  Chancellor Kohl, a great statesman and a proud European, worked with foresight and dedication for the good of all German people and in neighbouring European countries.  May our merciful God repay him for his untiring work in favour of unity within Germany and within the European union, as well as for his commitment to peace and reconciliation.  I pray that the Lord may grant him eternal joy and life in heaven and with all my heart I implore the consolation and blessings of God upon all his fellow countrymen and upon all those who mourn for him.
