From June 8 to 11, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Integral Human Developmental Services, will travel to Astana (Kazakhstan) as a Commissioner for the participation of the Holy See at the inauguration of Expo 2017, the theme of which is: Future Energy.
The Holy See, which has been participating in World Expositions since 1851, will be present with its own pavilion entitled Energy for the Common Good: Caring for our Common Home. The local Church has also participated in the process of creating this pavilion which focuses on the theme of energy in the future, understood as an opportunity for the promotion of humanity and for the betterment of our common home based on fair and sustainable use of natural resources.
The Holy See's exhibit, which uses digital installations and provides the possibility for visitors to be accompanied by photographic, artistic, cultural and spiritual aspects, develops four themes: the love of God as the origin of the creation of man and of the earth; energy as an instrument placed in the hands of mankind, who has not always used this instrument in the best way; energy aimed at the integral development of persons and the care for our common home; and the strength of spirituality, with particular reference to prayer, the search for meaning and for inter-religious dialogue.
The inauguration of Expo 2017 will take place on June 9, the Holy See's pavilion will be officially opened on the following day. Cardinal Turkson will be accompanied by His Excellency, Francis Assisi Chullikatt, Apostolic Nuncio in Kazakhstan, Kirghizistan and Tagikistan and by various representatives of the local Church. The national day of the Holy See will be obeserved on September 2.
