An elevation in Rome

This morning in Rome, the Holy Father has elevated the Under-secretary of the Synod of Bishops, Monsignor Fabio Fabene, and has assigned him the titular See of Acquapendente.

Monsignor Fabio Fabene was born in Rome on March 12, 1959.  He attended Minor Seminary in the then Diocese of Montefiascone, and continued with studies in Theology at the Pontifical Regional Seminary in Viterbo before being ordained a priest for that same diocese on May 26, 1984.

He subsequently completed a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University.

He exercised parochial ministry in the parish of Santa Maria del Giglio in Montefiascone, before being placed in charge of the diocesan Chancery from 1984 to 1998.  During those years, he also taught Canon Law at the Viterbese Theological Institute.

Since January 1, 1998, he has been at the service of the Congregation for Bishops, where he has served as Office Manager since April 24, 2010, while at the same time serving as Substitute for the Secretary of the College of Cardinals.

In 1996, he served as Judge Extern of the Tribunal of first instance for the causes of nullity of marriage in the Region of the Lazio, in the Ordinary Tribunal of the Diocese of Rome.

He was named a Prelate of Honour by His Holiness on January 11, 2012.

He is also serving as the Postulator for the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Cardinal Marco Antonio Barbarigo and as Assistant Ecclesiastic of the Italian Centre for Women (CIF) in Rome.  He is the author of various articles published in journals of Canon Law, of biographies of Cardinal Barbarigo and of Monsignor Luigi Boccadoro and of books on the ministry of bishops and priests.

On February 8 of this year, he was named Under-secretary of the Synod of Bishops.
