Remembering John Paul II

This morning, during the General Audience, His Holiness, Pope Francis remembered his predecessor, Pope John Paul II who entered into the Father's house on April 2, 2005.

Greetings of His Holiness, Pope Francis
for Polish-speaking pilgrims in attendance
at the General Audience

I cordially greet all Polish pilgrims.  The anniversary of the death of Blessed John Paul II which is today draws our thoughts toward the day of his canonization which we will celebrate at the end of this month.  Waiting for this event is for us an opportunity to prepare spiritually and to revive the patrimony of the faith that he has left us.  Imitating Christ, he was for all the world an unceasing preacher of the word of God, of the truth and of goodness.  He did good even through his suffering.  This was the lesson of his life, a lesson to which the People of god responded with great love and esteem.  His intercession strengthens within us the gifts of faith, hope and love.  During this time of preparation, I accompany all of you with my Apostolic Blessing.
