Aboard the aircraft this morning that took him to Cairo (Egypt) for his 18th Apostolic Voyage, Pope Francis, as he usually does, greeted the various representatives of the media who were present with him on the flight.
Introduced by the Director of the Holy See Press Centre, Greg Burke, the Pope then spoke a few words to the journalists.
Greg Burke:
Holy Father, we want to thank you. Above all, thank you for this privilege to travel with you. To you who tell us to say thank you, excuse me, may I, we ask forgiveness for the time that we are taking from you; Monsignor Maurizio Rueda tells me that we have only a little bit of time, and this I say also to the journalists: this is only a greeting. This is not the moment to ask questions, however the Pope will greet every one of us. Thank you for this very important voyage.
Holy Father:
Thank you. I thank you for accompanying me and for your work, which will be a work of helping many people to understand this voyage, to know what was done, what we spoke about, many things ... people are following us.
This voyage has special expectations because it is a trip that is taking place at the invitation of the President of the Republic; as well as Pope Tawadros II, the Patriarch of Alexandria for Copts; the Patriarch of Catholic Copts and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. All four of them invited me to undertake this trip. It is a trip of unity and fraternity. I thank you for your work which over the next almost two days will be very, very intense! Thank you.
As is his custom, the Pope then greeted each of the journalists aboard.
