The next step to their canonization

On Thursday of Easter week (20 April 2017), at 10:00am (Rome time), in the Consistory Hall at the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father, Pope Francis will preside over the celebration of the liturgical Hour of Terce (Mid-morning Prayer) and will hold an Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonization of the following Blesseds:

  • Andrea de Soveral and Ambrogio Francesco Ferro, diocesan priests, as well as Matteo Moreira, a layman and 27 companions, martyrs;
  • Christopher, Anthony and John, teenaged martyrs;
  • Faustino Miguez, a Piarist priest, founder of the Calasanizano Institute of the Daughters of the Divine Shepherdess;
  • Angelo da Acri (born: Luca Antonio Falcone), a professed priest of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor;
  • Francesco Marto and Giacinta Marto, a Portuguese brother and sister who received visions of Our Lady at Fatima.
The Ordinary Public Consistory is the final step in the process of Canonization.  The Holy Father consults with the Cardinals who are members of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.  In each case, the evidence that has been collected and examined will be presented.  After the consultation, those candidates who have received favourable responses will be assigned dates for their Canonizations.  This information will be published after the completion of the Consistory.
