Greetings to France

The Holy Father has sent a telegram to the newly-elected President of the French Republic, His Excellency, Mister Emmanuel Macron.

Telegram of the Holy Father, Pope Francis
to the President of the French Republic

His Excellency, Mister Emmanuel Macron
President of the French Republic
Paris

On the occasion of your investiture as President of the French Republic, I send you my very cordial greetings for the exercise of your office in service to your compatriots.

I pray that God will sustain you so that your country, faithful to the rich diversity of her moral traditions and her spiritual heritage, also marked by the Christian tradition, may always maintain support for the establishment of a more just and fraternal society, respecting differences and attentive to persons in precarious situations and conditions of exclusions, so that your service may contribute to the cooperation and solidarity between nations.

At the heart of Europe and throughout the world, may France continue to favour the quest for peace and the common good, respect for life and the defence of the dignity of each person and of all people.

Upon your person and upon all the inhabitants of France, I willingly impart the Lord's benediction.

Francis
