Meet Poland's Ambassador to Canada

In preparation for World Youth Day 2016, the international gathering of youth which will take place in Krakow, Poland at the end of this month, Salt+Light Television has prepared an interview with the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Canada, His Excellency, Marcin Bosacki.

Born in 1970 in Poznań, Marcin Bosacki obtained a degree in history from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He worked as a journalist for the largest Polish daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza for 20 years, and served as the head of its foreign news department for six years. From 2007 until 2010, he was the chief US correspondent in Washington, DC. In the 1980s, he was involved in the underground movement Solidarity – Schools Social Resistance Circles and Independent Students Association in Poznań as an editor of student publications. He received numerous honours for his work as journalist, including the prestigious Association of Polish Journalists award.

Between 2010 and 2013, Marcin Bosacki served as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) press spokesman, presenting Poland's diplomatic stance during such key events as the EU Council Presidency in 2011, negotiations on the new EU budget and the Arab Spring. In addition, he issued warnings for Polish tourists travelling abroad. Thanks to Marcin Bosacki's efforts it was possible to launch a new integrated MFA website and over 150 web portals for Polish diplomatic missions around the world. Moreover, he added social media to the Ministry’s communication toolkit, which earned the MFA third place in the prestigious Twiplomacy ranking of the world’s best connected diplomatic institutions in July 2013. His achievements in strengthening Poland's position on the international stage were recognized by Bene Merito honorary distinction, which he received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski.

On October 30, 2013 Marcin Bosacki presented his credentials to the Governor General of Canada David Johnston, and officially began his post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Canada. He is married, and has two daughters and two sons.
