The Holy Father, Pope Francis has accepted the resignation offered by Reverend Father Federico Lombardi, SJ from the office of Director of the Holy See Press Centre.
His Holiness has appointed Doctor Greg Burke, who has until now been serving as Associate Director of the Holy See Press Centre as its new Director. This appointment will take effect on 1 August 2016.
In addition, the Holy Father has appointed a new Associate Director for the Holy See Press Centre. As of 1 August 2016, Doctor Paloma García Ovejero will fulfill this post.
Doctor Gregory Joseph Burke was born on 8 November 1959 in Saint Louis (United States of America), part of a traditionally practicing Catholic family. After having attended one of the Jesuit high schools in that city, he graduated in 1983 with a degree in Comparative Literature from Columbia University in New York before specializing in journalism. During those same years, he became a member of Opus Dei.
He worked at United Press International in Chicago, for Reuters and for the weekly news magazine Metropolitan until he was sent to Rome as a correspondent for the National Catholic Register. In 1990, he began to work with Time magazine and became a permanent correspondent for that magazine when, in 1994, Saint John Paul II was chosen as Man of the Year.
In 2001, he began to work in television as the Rome correspondent for Fox News. In 2012, he was called to the Secretariat of State, to the Section for General Affairs, as a communications consultant. On 21 December 2015, he was appointed as Associate Director of the Holy See Press Centre.
He speaks English, Italian, Spanish and French.
Doctor Paloma García Ovejero was born in Madrid (Spain) on 12 August 1975. After graduating in Journalism (1998) from the Complutense University in Madrid, she obtained a Masters degree in Basque Studies (Jakinet/Uned, 2001) and a specialization in Management Strategies and Communication (New York University, 2006).
Since 1998, she has been an editor and presenter for Cadena Cope, Radio Española, with the title of Chief Editor.
Beginning in September 2012, she has served as correspondent for Italy and for Vatican City, working with, not only Cadena Cope, Radio Española, but also other television stations and several newspapers.
She speaks Spanish, English, Italian and Chinese.
