New Bishop for Corner Brook and Labrador (NF)

The Holy Father has appointed Reverend Father Bartolomeus Van Roijen as the Bishop of the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador (Newfoundland, Canada).


Reverend Bartolomeus Van Roijen was born on 4 August 1965 in Diemen, a suburb of Amsterdam (Holland) and arrived in Canada at the age of 8 years.  He completed studies in Philosophy at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a Diploma in Arts.

In 1983, Father Van Roijen entered the Saint Pius X Seminary in Saskatoon, for the Diocese of Nelson (BC), and studiend Theology at Saint Peter's Seminary in London.  From 1992-1995, he served as Director of Religious Education for the former Diocese of Gravelbourg (Saskatchewan).  He concluded his studies for the priesthood at Saint Joseph's Seminary in Edmonton, earning a Diploma in Divinity from the University of Western Ontario.

He was Ordained a priest on 25 April 1997 and incardinated in the Diocese of Nelson (BC).

Following his Ordination, he held various positions, including:  Vicar of the parish of the Immaculate Conception in Kelowna (1997-1998); Pastor of the parish of the Sacred Heart in Grand Forks and the Missions at Greenwood and Christina Lake (1998-2001); Pastor of the parishes of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Saint Anthony/Saint Francis in Trail (BC, 2001-2007); pastoral service in rural communities in the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith (2005-2007); Pastor of the Parish of Saint Pius X in Kelowna (2007-2010); Pastor of Saint Michael's (Sparwood), Holy Family (Fernie), Saint Bernard's Mission (Elkford) (2010-2014).  Since 2014, he has been serving as Pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Trail (BC) and since 2017, has been serving as Vicar General of the Diocese of Nelson (BC).

Reverend Van Roijen has also served as Dean and President of the Diocesan Office for Religious Education; President of the Presbyteral Council; Diocesan Director for Vocations and a member of the Diocesan Office for Catholic Schools.
