Condolences to Novara

The Holy Father has sent a telegram of condolences on the occasion of the death of Cardinal Renato Corti, Bishop emeritus of Novara (Italy) who died this morning.

Telegram of Condolence

To His Excellency, Franco Giulio Brambilla
Bishop of Novara

Having learned the news of the death of the beloved Cardinal Renato Corti, I wish to express to you and to the entire Diocesan community, as well as the family members of the deceased Cardinal and to all those who have known him and held him in great esteem, my closeness.  I think with affection and admiration of this brother who served the Lord Jesus and the Church with exemplary dedication and gentleness of spirit.  I think with gratitude of the intense spiritual and pastoral ministry he carried out without thinking of himself, but always giving of himself for the sake of the gospel, first in the formation of seminarians and priests and as Vicar General, and then, for many years as a humble and wise shepherd of the Church of Novara.  I also think of his genuine love for the missions and for the ministry of preaching which he exercised with great generosity, in all places, with a passionate desire to communicate the gospel of Christ.

Raising my prayers to the Lord that, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, He may welcome this faithful servant and learned pastor into the heavenly Jerusalem, and willingly imparting my Apostolic blessing to all those who are saddened, I offer a special thought for those who have lovingly helped and accompanied him in his final hours.

Francis
